How much yarn do I need for a queen-size blanket?
A queen-size blanket in worsted weight typically runs 3,500-4,500 yards depending on stitch density — a tight stitch like c2c uses more yarn per square inch than a looser granny stitch.
Why did my blanket come out narrower than the pattern said?
Tension drifts over a long project even when the starting gauge swatch was correct. Re-check your gauge every 10-15 rows on a large blanket, not just at the start.
Can I wash a chunky yarn blanket in a normal washing machine?
Only if the yarn label says machine-washable — many chunky and jumbo yarns are wool or wool-blend and felt permanently in a hot wash. Check the fiber content before the first wash, not after.
Why is my blanket curling at the edges?
Single crochet and stockinette stitch both curl without a border. Add a few rows of double crochet or garter stitch around the edge to hold it flat.
